Improving Outcomes in Alzheimer's Disease: The Role of the Pharmacist

Alzheimer’s Disease Specialty Training Overview

Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating condition with broad reaching consequences not only for the patient but for families and caregivers as well. Through a series of 3 monographs this program will provide the pharmacist/nurse with advanced expertise in Alzheimer’s disease: its pathophysiology, assessment, treatment options, and coping strategies for the family and caregivers. With permission, we will notify local primary care physicians of the pharmacist’s/nurse’s participation in this program in the hopes of establishing an Alzheimer’s disease healthcare network to further improve patient outcomes.

Upon successful completion of all 3 CE tests, the pharmacist will receive:

  • A certificate suitable for framing
  • A resource CD containing references, patient handouts, and caregiver handouts
  • A laminated drug pocket guide, with “at a glance” information on the drugs used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, their mechanisms of action, side effects, and drug interactions

This program is made possible by an educational grant from Forest Laboratories
